Sommelier Profile

Antinori Tignanello Toscana

Tuscany, Italy

Serving60–64°F / 16–18°C
Drinking Window8–25 years

Elegant and structured, with black cherry, red currant, tobacco, cedar, rosemary, and a graphite-like finish. The palate is polished but energetic, with Sangiovese acidity keeping the Cabernet richness in line.

Region & Terroir

Tuscany, Italy

Tignanello comes from the Antinori family's high-elevation estate in the Chianti Classico hills, where warm Tuscan light is balanced by altitude and diurnal shift. The wine helped define the Super Tuscan movement by marrying native Sangiovese with Bordeaux varieties outside traditional Chianti rules.

Grape Varieties

Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc

Sangiovese gives red cherry, savory herbs, acidity, and Tuscan tension. Cabernet Sauvignon adds cassis and structure, while Cabernet Franc contributes perfume, spice, and fine-grained lift.

Soil & Vinification

The estate's limestone-rich alberese and galestro soils help preserve freshness and mineral bite. Separate fermentation by variety, careful extraction, and French oak aging create polish while keeping the Sangiovese core recognizable.

Aromatic Profile

The nose typically moves from ripe cherry and currant into violet, tobacco, cedar, and Tuscan herb notes, with oak spice folded into the fruit rather than sitting above it.

Notable Details

Tignanello is one of Italy's most influential Super Tuscans and remains a benchmark for collectible, modern Tuscan red wine.
